Underground V. A line – track section Dejvická–Bořislavka (SOD 02)

Underground V. A line – track section Dejvická–Bořislavka (SOD 02), securing driven connecting ventilation ducts with the use of remediation and sealing rock groutings

Single track tunnels of the Prague underground V.A line operating section Dejvická-Motol are interconnected by connecting ventilation ducts along the whole line. These ventilation ducts are mainly designed to reduce piston effect caused by passing underground trains. They can also be used for possible passenger evacuation or rescue operations. On most parts of the underground line standard driving methods were used to gradually drive connecting ventilation ducts from existing driven track tunnels in rock environment. A totally different geological situation occurred in the track section between Dejvická and Bořislavka stations leading under Evropská Road. With respect to the existence of water-bearing layers of strongly weathered to disintegrated shale or even soil in the ventilation ducts excavation areas, it was necessary to carry out extensive stabilisation of this rock environment due to its known adverse effects on driven works. For that reason overburden areas in seven of the connecting ventilation ducts had to be stabilised by jet grouting to the height of 3,0 m. Also, sides and bottoms of the driven connecting ducts were secured to the depth of 2,0 m and 1,0 m respectively, including stabilisation of the excavation area itself (with the use of lock columns). Remediation groutings were terminated approx. 1,0 m from the existing structures of already driven underground tubes. Sealing rock grouting mixture had to be used in place to prevent groundwater leakage. All securing works described above were carried out from the surface in extremely adverse conditions with several parallel restrictions on the busy Evropská Road.
